About BMS-EV — Controllers for Second-Life EV Battery Storage
BMS-EV designs and manufactures BMS controllers that enable used electric vehicle batteries to be reused as stationary home and commercial energy storage systems. Our solutions bridge original EV battery packs (Tesla, BMW, Nissan, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia and others) with leading hybrid inverters from GoodWe, Fronius, SMA, Sungrow, SolaX and Deye via the CAN bus.
Who is behind BMS-EV
BMS-EV was founded by Jakub Lipiński — a computer scientist by training and a hardware developer who built the entire technology stack himself: from the controller PCB through firmware and a proprietary cloud telemetry platform to touch panels and the mobile application.
What began in 2023 as a private research project on the meaningful reuse of second-life EV batteries was officially registered as a sole proprietorship under the name Clima Boost Jakub Lipiński in March 2024. In 2026, the brand was relaunched under BMS-EV with an international online shop available in 26 languages.
What was developed entirely in-house
- Hardware: proprietary controller PCB design, prototyping, functional testing and series production
- Firmware: ESP32-based controller software with CAN bus integration for OEM BMS protocols of Tesla, BMW, Nissan, VW, Hyundai/Kia, Renault, Stellantis and other manufacturers
- Inverter communication: implementation of the Pylontech protocol and proprietary protocols for GoodWe, Fronius, SMA, Sungrow, SolaX and Deye
- BMS-EV Cloud: proprietary telemetry platform with measurement database and dashboards for monitoring live data, charge and discharge curves and battery state of health (SOH)
- Mobile app: Android application for remote monitoring of home installations
- 7-inch touch panel: local operator panel with full telemetry history and real-time status display
- Shop and multilingual platform: approximately 2,800 product configurations across 26 languages

Our position on safety
A used Tesla, BMW or Nissan Leaf battery pack has gone through five to seven years of OEM validation, a 50 km/h frontal crash test, a bonfire test, vibration testing and thermal propagation tests under UN ECE R100 Rev.3. EV batteries are among the most rigorously certified lithium-ion systems in the world — held to higher standards than many commercial home storage batteries certified to IEC 62619.
The real risk in a second-life storage system lies not in the battery itself, but in the electrical integration: in BMS selection, in contactor and fuse sizing, in isolation and HVIL monitoring, and in correct CAN bus communication with the inverter. This is exactly what BMS-EV addresses.
We strongly recommend that installation be carried out only by a qualified electrician and that the storage system be placed in a dedicated fire compartment with a smoke detector. Detailed information on the three-layer safety architecture of our controllers is available on the Safety Architecture page, while a direct comparison of safety standards can be found at Safety Standards: UN ECE R100 Rev.3 vs IEC 62619.
Pricing and orders
The BMS-EV controller is available from 2,499 PLN (approximately 580 €). Cloud connectivity is optional and offered in 6-, 12- and 24-month packages. Current prices and combinations with inverters can be found in the online shop.
